Anthony Michael Muñoz, Jr. may never live up to the unrealistic expectations of those who expect him to be a dominanting player as was his father, who is generally considered the best offensive tackle in NFL history. Michael Muñoz has, however, developed into a fine college player and pro prospect in his own right.
Muñoz started every game of his true freshman year at Tennessee as the Volunteers’ right tackle. He redshirted in 2001 due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament and then returned to the lineup the following two seasons at left tackle.
Muñoz is big, strong, and obviously well schooled in the fundamentals of the position. Although he has a quiet and humble demeanor, the two-time Volunteer captain has a fierce competitive streak and leads by example. Muñoz has battled back from injury and had his best, most consistent season as a junior.
Muñoz’s knee will have to withstand the scrutiny of NFL medical staffs. While he is an above-average athlete, quicker pass rushers can give him problems so right tackle may be his best NFL position. Muñoz, who gave the speech as his father’s presenter at Anthony’s Hall of Fame induction in 1998, is not guaranteed to return to Canton, Ohio as a Hall of Fame enshrinee himself, but he should become a quality NFL starter.
