Safety
Jamaal Brimmer

College: UNLV
Year: Senior
Height: 6’1"
Weight: 210
Birthday: June 29, 1982

Jamaal Brimmer cast the national spotlight on himself during a 2002 season in which he amassed a total of 17 tackles for a loss… and he was a freaking safety! Adding 5.5 sacks among his 100 tackles, and it is safe to say that Brimmer brings a disruptive element to the line of scrimmage.

As a strong safety, Brimmer’s impressive stats don’t stop there. He has forced seven fumbles over the past two season, not to mention an impressive six interceptions last year alone.

Brimmer has put on a one-man show in some big games, too. Against BYU, in the fourth quarter with his team clinging to a 9-3 lead, he blitzed the Cougar quarterback and forced a fumble, then picked it up and ran 27 yards to glory. In last year’s 23-5 upset over a ranked Wisconsin team, Brimmer made two sacks among his 11 tackles, nabbed two interceptions, and returned a fumble for a touchdown.

Brimmer may slip in some scouts’ notebooks though when they time him in the forty. Perhaps at his best, Brimmer times in the 4.6 range, but he is a classic example of an instinctive player who has good "football" speed. Despite what his six interceptions say, he’ll need to improve in coverage and avoid taking lapses in focus, but Brimmer is the kind of defensive playmaker than any NFL team should want in their secondary.
