Teddy Lehman

Strengths: Every team is looking for speed in its linebacker corps, and Teddy Lehman fills that bill. Lehman was a state champion sprinter in high school and over the last few seasons has developed into one of the better linebackers in college football.

Football fans in Texas, especially those of the orange-blooded variety, should be very aware of Lehman. In 2001, Lehman pulled down a tipped Chris Simms pass to ensure the Sooner victory. He also made seven tackles, including two behind the line of scrimmage. The next year, he again picked off Simms and made ten tackles, two of them for losses.

Lehman started his college career as a middle linebacker before moving to the weakside, so he could be tried either outside or inside in a 3-4 defense.

Areas of Concern: While Lehman has great straight-line speed, he needs to develop pass rush skills if he is to be a 3-4 outside linebacker. He does not have the quick first step or repertoire of moves that the great pass rushers have.

Lehman was arrested for public intoxication during the 2001 season, but apparently has stayed out of trouble since then.

How Would He Look in Steel Blue? Lehman can run and hit, two key job requirements for the position. He may be especially attractive to the Texans; since he could fit at either one of the outside or inside positions, they would get extra value by picking him. Lehman must continue to improve his game, including his rush moves and technique, in order to become the ideal 3-4 outside linebacker.
