Antrel Rolle

College: Miami
Year: Senior
Height: 6’1"
Weight: 197
Birthday: December 16, 1982

Antrel Rolle is back for his senior season, despite talk amongst scouts that he might have been a first round selection in the 2004 draft had he declared his eligibility. Well, good things will come to those who wait.

Rolle is among the best of the cover corners in college football. He combines fluid hips and change of direction ability to go along with his 4.5 speed and quickness. His good size gives him leverage in jamming receivers at the line of scrimmage, and while he’s nothing special as a tackler, he’s physical nonetheless. His physical attitude caught him some trouble last season though, as he fought back with DeAngelo Hall in a tough loss to Virginia Tech, earning himself a one-game suspension.

Rolle would give the Texans a dual threat, as he can also return punts, evidenced by his 15.6-yard average in 2003. While he may not look like a ballhawk with just three picks in his last two seasons as a starter, he proved he had the chops last season in never allowing a touchdown and shutting down the likes of Pitt’s Larry Fitzgerald and Florida State’s P.K. Sam in the season’s final two games.

More problematic for the Texans than his interception totals might be his off-field problems. Rolle was charged with a felony count of police battery after resisting an arrest in July. He was subsequently suspended by the Hurricanes.
