Lance Mitchell

College: Oklahoma
Year: Senior
Height: 6’2"
Weight: 244
Birthday: October 9, 1981

Lance Mitchell expected to be an NFL rookie by this point. However, in Oklahoma’s third game of 2003, he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and his senior season was over. Mitchell’s knee was surgically repaired last fall and the NCAA granted him another season in Norman due to medical hardship.

Mitchell arrived at OU in 2002 after two junior college seasons and a brief stop at Florida (he discovered that he would not have been eligible to play for the Gators that season under SEC rules). He took over the Sooners’ starting middle linebacker job and led the team in tackles and tackles for loss. Mitchell is a hard-working, physical player who is able to take on and shed blocks. He takes proper angles to the ball, not wasting any steps, and delivers a powerful blow when he gets there.

Although doctor’s deemed Mitchell’s knee surgery a success, he will have to prove to scouts on the field that he is all the way back. He looked like his old self in Oklahoma’s spring game, in which he registered seven tackles in limited playing time. Even before his injury, Mitchell lacked impressive stopwatch speed, so he could be downgraded for that deficiency in postseason workouts.
