Josh Bullocks makes it all look so simple. Get to the football early in order to make big plays on defense. Well, Bullocks made plenty big plays during a 2003 season in which he set both school and conference records with his ten interceptions.
Bullocks is more than just sticky fingers though. He is a smart cookie that plays with discipline and athleticism. He has the necessary speed and range that scouts desire in a safety, and he has a better than average vertical leap to protect against jump balls. His coverage skills and recovery speed keep him close to every play destined for his side of the field.
He is a ballhawk if there ever was one, but it remains to be seen whether he can repeat this kind of performance. While there is no explaining why opposing quarterbacks continued to put up footballs within his reach as his interceptions kept piling up, it is apparent that Bullocks has a sixth sense when it comes to being in the right place at the right time.
It’s not all magic and psychic friends, though. Bullocks makes his interceptions look easy by studying hours of game film with his twin brother Daniel, the other starting safety in Nebraska’s defensive backfield, so he will know when to break on a receiver’s intermediate route. What everyone else will want to know is whether he’ll disappear from the Cornhuskers to make his tricks available to the NFL in the 2005 draft.
