Tight End
Aaron Walker
Year: Senior
Height: 6’6"
Weight: 260
Birthday: March 14, 1980

Strengths: The fact that tight end Aaron Walker was more than just an afterthought in Steve Spurrier’s "Fun ‘n Gun" offense should serve as an endorsement of his ability as a receiver. While he was usually closer to being the last option for quarterback Rex Grossman than the first on any particular play, he had a more significant role in the Gator passing game than most tight ends have had under Spurrier.

The 6’6" Walker makes a huge target. He runs well and is fluid for a player of his physical stature, creating coverage mismatches with either smaller defensive backs or slower linebackers. Walker has reliable hands and adjusts well to the ball. New Florida coach Ron Zook plans on retaining Spurrier’s offensive scheme, but the losses of star wide receivers Jabar Gaffney and Reche Caldwell to the NFL should move Walker up in the pecking order and allow him some additional receiving opportunities.

Areas for Concern: Despite his outstanding size, Walker is not a powerful blocker or an extremely strong player. He does not break as many tackles as one might expect from a player of his dimensions. In addition, despite being a fifth-year senior, he lacks experience due to the tight end’s limited role in the offense – with the Gators utilizing so many multiple-receiver sets, Walker is essentially a role player.

How Would He Look in Steel Blue? Walker must show more as a blocker if he wants to be considered a top prospect by a team like the Texans. At this point in his career, he may be a better fit with a team that runs the West Coast offense and utilizes the tight end more as a receiver than an in-line blocker.
