Chance Pearce
Position: Deep Snapper
Drafted: Round 7, 233rd Overall
Height: 6’1″
Weight: 250
College: Texas A&M
Birthdate: May 11, 1980
NFL Comparison: Mike Schneck
Strengths: Chance Pearce is an accurate and consistent deep snapper who has handled those duties for Texas A&M for the past four seasons, making 490 snaps with only one error (which came in 2000). A former walk-on from Brownwood, Texas, he is a hard worker who hustles on punt coverage.
Areas of Concern: Pearce does not always get great velocity on his snaps. He is not very fast and should not be expected to be much of a factor in covering punts. A tight end in high school, Pearce is pure deep snapper who cannot contribute at another position.
2003 Expectations: Pearce will challenge Sean McDermott for the deep snapper spot on the roster. Capers may be hesitant to award this job, where one mistake can cost a game (ask the New York Giants about that), to a rookie, so Pearce will not have must be perfect in training camp. If Pearce makes it, though, the Texans may not have to worry about this position for several years. What else do you expect from a deep snapper?
