Drafted: Round 6, 183rd Overall

Weight: 300
College: Texas
Birthdate: July 1, 1984
NFL Comparison: Kris Diehlman

Strengths: A tough guy, Kasey Studdard is an overachiever who gives everything he has on the field. He produced 82 knockdowns as a junior when Texas won the National Championship and added 76 more as a senior. His father, Dave, blocked for Gary Kubiak with the Broncos so there is some history here. Kasey is strong and takes on bull rushers well. He can make switches in pass protection and stays after his blocks until the whistle sounds.

Areas of Concern: Studdard is considered stiff and not a great athlete. He is better in tight quarters where he can use his strength rather than on the move. He’s not fluid in hip movement. His lack of athleticism causes him to lunge too often and leave his feet. Like many Longhorn linemen, scouts find his body lacks definition and could be more fit.

2007 Expectations: Most scouts rate him as nothing more than backup material. It could be Kubiak owed his dad a favor or it could be a make-up call to jilted Longhorn fans still seething over Vince Young but, either way, Studdard doesn’t fit the mold of a zone blocking lineman, and it is difficult to project him as having anything more than a career as bench depth.
