Drafted: Round 5, 163rd Overall
Height: 6’4"
Weight: 305
College: Virginia Tech
Birthdate: January 23, 1983
NFL Comparison: Seth Wand

Strengths: Well built, quick and athletic, Brandon Frye is a long-term project with NFL bloodlines that has bounced from tight end to defensive end to offensive tackle and may project to guard down the road. He has the mobility to be effective in the zone blocking scheme and shows ability to get to the second line in blocking. Frye’s an incredible weightlifter who has room to fill out a bit more. Smart and a hard worker, Frye will need a lot of coaching before he can contribute.

Areas of Concern: Some scouts claim he is "soft," Frye scored only 13 "pancakes blocks" in 11 games last year. There are complaints that Frye doesn’t attack well, has poor hand technique and can look lost. A lot of that can be addressed with intense coaching. Despite limited playing time at Virginia Tech, he suffered two injuries and missed two games although neither are major concerns.

2007 Expectations: Okay, so the comparisons I read were really to Jordan Gross and Levi Jones but, seriously, this is no Top 10 pick – not by a long shot. He hasn’t had enough time at any one position to master it so the Texans will need to find out where he best fits and then coach him up to it. A year on the practice squad seems likely and Frye could find himself as a backup in 2008.
