The War Room | HoustonProFootball.com Wali Lundy Position: Running Back
Drafted: Round 6, 170th Overall
Height: 5’10"
Weight: 214
College: Virginia
Birthdate: September 8, 1983
NFL Comparison: Mike Anderson
Strengths: Wali Lundy is a patient runner who follows his blockers and has the vision to spot cutback lanes. He is most effective between the tackles where he can use his powerful legs and low center of gravity to his advantage. Lundy is a dependable blocker who can be counted on to pick up blitzers. He is also a solid receiver out of the backfield.
Areas of Concern: Durability has been a problem for Lundy throughout his college career; he was slowed for a significant portion of the 2005 season by a sprained left foot. He lost his starting job to Alvin Pearman (a Jacksonville 4th rounder in 2005) midway through his junior year. Lundy lacks the speed to break big runs or be much of a threat outside.
2006 Expectations: Lundy has some of the traits of the runners who have excelled in Kubiak’s offense, particularly the ability to find creases. He doesn’t add any new dimensions or skills to the Texan running back corps, but he does provide depth. His odds of making the team will increase if unrestricted free agent Jonathan Wells is not re-signed.
