The War Room | HoustonProFootball.com Owen Daniels
Position: Tight End
Drafted: 4th round, 98th Overall
Height: 6’3"
Weight: 245
College: Wisconsin
Birthdate: November 9, 1982
NFL Comparison: Chris Cooley
Strengths: Daniels has 4.7 speed and good hands. He is good in space and creates matchup problems with linebackers. He’s tough enough to catch balls over the middle and smart enough to find gaps in the zones. He is an aggressive blocker who can identify and execute against second-level defenders.
Areas of Concern: Injuries and size. Daniels has had two ACL surgeries on his left knee and ankle problems, making durability a question. While a willing blocker, he lacks true tight end size. He has the frame to add more weight but currently lacks the bulk to provide much of a punch. He needs work on releasing from the line when manned up. He was a backup during most of his college career and is older (23) than most players drafted.
2006 Expectations: Daniels is expected to be an H-back and pass-catching tight end in the Bronco-style offense, playing behind Jeb Putzier. He should expect to be on special teams as well.
