Outside Linebacker
Jonathan Jackson

College: Oklahoma
Year: Senior
Height: 6’2"
Weight: 235
Birthday: October 17, 1982

Jonathan Jackson has the fast-twitch muscles to beat blockers off the snap and the explosive burst to be a disruptive force. He only recorded five sacks in 2003, but his 26 quarterback hurries shows that he spent a great deal of time in opposing backfields. In Oklahoma’s rout of Texas last season, the product of Houston’s North Shore High School made seven tackles (including three for loss) and two sacks, forced a fumble, and picked off a pass and ran it back for a touchdown.

Jackson can disappear at times, and has yet to consistently dominate like his athletic ability leads scouts to believe that he can. Teammate Dan Cody has been the more productive at the college level, but of the Sooners’ two defensive ends Jackson projects to be a better fit in a 3-4 defense due to his overall athletic ability. Jackson also tends to run around blocks rather than fight through them, opening up gaps in the defense when he is caught out of position.

Jackson would play right outside linebacker in the Texans’ defense so that he could use his speed and against most formations would not have to play over a tight end. He has the pass rush ability that the Texans covet and the athleticism to drop into coverage on occasion.
