Strengths: Undersized defensive end who played four years with the Rebels. Athletic. Good lower body strength and agility. A strong pass rusher and hard worker throughout his career. According to the Oxford Eagle, Anderson showed a lot of maturity his senior year and was one of Rebels’ defensive leaders. Good speed for his size. Played as heavy as 265 during his career. Good work ethic – Anderson received the Most Dedicated Player Award for the 2003 season from the Hinds County Chapter of the Ole Miss Alumni Association.
Areas of Concern: Run support. He is better suited as a pass rusher and he has trouble shedding blocks at the point of attack against big offensive tackles. As a career defensive end, he is untested and inexperienced in pass coverage, which is a major concern if he is expected to convert to OLB in the Texans 3-4. Less than desired upper body strength. Expected by many to go undrafted, due to his inability to project as a defensive end in a 4-3 system and his lack of experience as a linebacker.
2004 Expectations: Anderson will work behind Jason Babin and Antwan Peek at the suddenly crowded ROLB slot. If the Texans LB coaches can work with him to improve his technique against the run, he could see time backing up Kailee Wong on the left side. Anderson is a project but his chances at making the team will be greatly enhanced if he can excel as a special teams player where his combination of size and speed could make a difference.
