Defensive Lineman
Haloti Ngata
College: Oregon
Year: Junior
Height: 6’4"
Weight: 337
Birthday: January 21, 1984
Haloti Ngata often looked like a man among boys at Oregon. He used his rare strength to overpower double teams in order to collapse the pocket and stuff interior running plays. The former high school rugby star is also surprisingly athletic, with a knack for blocking kicks (he has swatted an Oregon record seven kicks in his college career) and batting down passes.
Ngata’s sophomore season ended basically as soon as it started when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in the first half of the Ducks’ first game. When he returned to the field in 2004, it took some time for him to return to form and was slowed by a nagging hamstring injury, but he finished the season with several strong performances and continued to play at a high level in 2005.
Ngata announced that he would skip his senior year at Oregon and enter the draft in order to help his mother, who was battling a kidney ailment. Less than a month later, she passed away. This is the second time in the last few years that Ngata has had to deal with the loss of a parent: his father was killed in a 2003 car accident.
Ngata could play as a 4-3 tackle or any position in a 3-4 front, so he should be highly sought after on draft day.
