Defensive End/Outside Linebacker
Kamerion Wimbley
College: Florida State
Year: Senior
Height: 6’3"
Weight: 245
Birthday: October 13, 1983
Kamerion Wimbley definitely looked ready for some football in Florida State’s 2005 season opener against Miami. In front of a national TV audience on Labor Day evening, he dominated Hurricane left tackle Eric Winston, who was considered an elite pro prospect, had a pair of sacks, and made plays all over the field.
Wimbley is an impressive all-around athlete; as a high school all-American in Wichita, Kansas, he played defensive end, linebacker, quarterback, receiver, and punter. He has the burst and acceleration to close on quarterbacks and makes many tackles pursuing runs to the other side of the field. While he is not a vocal leader, he plays hard and sets a good example for his teammates, always putting the team’s best interests before his own.
Wimbley was not a starter at Florida State until his senior year; before that, he was part of a rotation with Chauncey Davis (a Falcons 4th round pick) and Eric Moore (a Giants 6th rounder). He missed almost full three games in 2005 with a sprained left knee, but surprised his coaches by answering the bell for the Orange Bowl even after aggravating the injury in a pre-bowl practice. Wimbley needs to get bigger and stronger if he is going to be an NFL down lineman.
Wimbley has some experience in pass coverage on zone blitzes, and is athletic enough to make the transition to outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense. He would need to bulk up to be an every-down end in a 4-3, but has the pass rush ability to contribute in the nickel package immediately.
