Drafted: Round 1, 10th Overall
Height: 5′ 10-1/2"
Weight: 186
College: South Carolina
Birthdate: April 11, 1982
NFL Comparison: Antoine Winfield

Strengths: After converting from safety in 2002, Robinson’s best asset may be that he hasn’t lost that safety’s nose for the football. He’s rated as a better hitter and tackler than the other top cornerbacks. He has top speed and makes good change of directions. He has a second gear and closing speed. Makes plays by batting down passes and jarring loose the ball from receivers. He has strong open field skills in both pass and run defense.

Dunta has the body to add another ten pounds of muscle and still be effective, which is good because he is smallish for a cornerback. He played on all special teams as a Gamecock and is considered a hard worker who will go beyond what his coaches ask of him. Scouts say he is tough and aggressive, playing bigger than his size would lead you to believe. He’s not afraid of contact and is willing to mix it up in traffic.

He has the potential to be a shutdown corner but will be challenged against the league’s taller receivers. Over his college career, Dunta recorded 85 solo tackles, 22 pass deflections and five interceptions, taking one back for a score.

Areas of Concern: The knocks on Robinson are primarily physical ones. He’s roughly the same height as Aaron Glenn in a league where the wideouts continue to get bigger and taller. He can be overmatched defending the run and still lacks the savvy a cornerback needs with only two years of experience at the position.

2004 Expectations: Don’t expect him to be handed Marcus Coleman’s job in camp. Robinson has NFL speed but still needs to get used to being on an island in the pros. Dunta is likely to be used in nickel situations to start with and he may develop into a starter by year’s end. Capers tends to develop his defensive rookies more slowly than on offense. He should see time on kick coverage teams.
